Remote Excursions

Totally amazing weekend. None of us want to leave! Thank you Scott and Janet, for such wonderful hospitality! Boat tour, tour guide, wood hauler extraordinaries! We have fallen in love with Seldovia and the bay, mostly this cabin. We look forward to returning, sitting on the deck, kayaking, and beach walks! Truly a magnificent place to visit!” -Jason and Trudy, Anchorage, Alaska.

Let us show you the best of Seldovia, the Seldovia Bay rain forest, and broader Kachemak Bay, Cook Inlet and the Gulf of Alaska with our guided adventures. We custom designed each adventure to show a different side of Alaska - the land, people, and animals – and to stimulate your curiosity and challenge everyone in your party from the “true adventurer” to the “young at heart”.  We provide these daily adventures inclusive in Seldovia Bay Adventure’s premium packages.

Historic Seldovia & Rocky Ridge Rainforest Trek Adventure

3 to 4 hours. Lunch included. Light to Moderate difficulty. Start by visiting Seldovia’s Harbor Pavilion where you will learn about how Native, Russian, and American cultures thrived and adapted to the demands of the Alaskan wilderness to create modern day Seldovia. Then visit Seldovia’s well appointed museum to further your knowledge of this unique place and the Native people that established one of this area’s first settlements. As you trek over the historic boardwalk and cross the fisherman’s bridge, you will be able to photograph the awesome views of classic Alaskan waterfront homes built on pilings lining the slough. Watch the people of Seldovia enjoy the relaxed pace of life as they go about their business and fish for king salmon in the slough. A short hike to the trail head lets you take in the fish creek salmon spawning area. (seasonal)

A few minutes into the hike and you will start your ascent on the Rocky Ridge Trail deep into the very northernmost tip of the Pacific Northwest coast rain forest. Your guide will teach you more about the town’s history and the rain forest as you capture views of the town and harbor from the heights of the mountain above Seldovia. Explore the historic log dam and see the wooden pipes that provided Seldovia’s early water supply. Witness the forces of nature after winter storms blew giant Sitka Spruce trees down along the trail. Lunch will be served picnic-style at the town’s water reservoir dam built in 1953. Finish the hike with a pick up at the trail head end after picking salmon and blueberries (seasonal) along the trail. Finally, rest those legs as you enjoy a fun ATV ride back to town, including a tour of the historic boardwalk, then either do some shopping or take a skiff ride back across the bay to your private lodge.

Tidepool to Outside Beach Nature Walk Adventure

2-3 hours. Lunch included for full service guests. Mild to moderate difficulty. In Alaska, the place where the land meets the sea is more than just a beautiful view - it is life-sustaining for its people. It's a place of gathering food and gathering together. And when you are off the road system - it's a historic gateway to the rest of the world. You will start this experience with a visit to Seldovia’s museum, then a side by side ATV ride to Outside Beach and spend the morning savoring breathtaking views and discovering the flora, fauna, and tide pool creatures with your personal guide. Then, you will hike the bluff to capture even more breathtaking views of Kachemak Bay, the volcanos of Cook Inlet, and the rugged KBay coastline. After, hike the 3/4 mile scenic Otterbaun Trail to our Seldovia side property where you can learn about plans to build a tree house “glamping” site in the near future.

Rainforest Kayak Voyage Adventure

3 - 5 hours. Lunch included. Moderate difficulty. For the more agile and fit explorers: Your guide will lead you on your kayak journey to the back bay, and during high tide and up one of the best-kept secrets of Seldovia Bay - Seldovia River. Packed with two of Alaska's five major salmon species Pink & Chum- this stunningly beautiful river has beautiful deep green hues at the holes, and the highest tides allow for a deep penetration of the rain forest. Bring your best camera (and paddle quietly!) for a once in a lifetime opportunity to capture iconic Alaskan wildlife photos as this river is lined with Bald Eagles' nests, and teeming with aquatic and terrestrial life. Be ready for a picture of a black bear during the salmon runs! The river delta is just stunning! If the tide is low, we will explore the tide flats on foot, and drink in the spender of “Scott’s Cathedral.” Experienced fishers will want to bring their fly rod, and waders to enjoy a casual day of unguided fishing adventure you will remember for a lifetime.

Your guide will teach you about some of the building techniques and architecture used in waterfront communities all over southcentral Alaska. You will also get to stop at a very unique local beachfront artists studio (accessible only by the water) and a paddle up Seldovia Slough. If the tide is right, you can paddle pretty far up the Slough and see the oceanfront living lifestyle of Seldovian’s, as their uniquely Alaskan homes line the shore and are built right out over the water.
